Nigel Wilson

Kitchen Designer & Furniture Maker

The founder of Auspicious Furniture, Nigel is an expert furniture maker, recognised Feng Shui consultant and a lover of balance.

“I like creating something that goes into someone’s home. Something that, when they see it, gives them that feeling - that glow. As makers, it’s nice to use hand tools. It’s the ceremony; you sharpen your chisels, sharpen your planes... it’s just you, the tools and the wood. I love the subtlety and the detail. I do it for pure enjoyment.”

The Process

Every Auspicious Furniture project begins at home, based on the strong belief that good design draws on a house and its people.

We will arrange a time to visit to discuss ideas and measure up. With a brief agreed, rough plans will be sketched and timescales estimated. If you are happy to proceed, the design process will continue; more detailed drawings will capture practicalities such as unit layout and drawer position, to help ensure that every inch of space is utilised intelligently.

Here at Auspicious we work closely with clients throughout, ensuring every design decision is agreed upon. Timber is hand-selected from FSC and PEFC certified sources then prepared with precision and skill. With an expert eye for design, we can make recommendations where required; from advising on timber choices and worktops to helping you choose the right door handles, lighting and paint colour.

"Some joints will never get seen, but we know they’re there. Given the choice, it’s more satisfying to make things by hand"
